Nomination/ Naming a beneficiary
Nomination
If you are 18 years of age and above, you can nominate your beneficiary (can be more than one person) as your heir/administrator of your EPF savings when you pass away. You are encouraged to nominate your nearest next-of-kin such as your spouse, children, parents or siblings in order to facilitate the withdrawal of your EPF savings.
For non-Muslims members, the nominated person(s) will be the actual rightful beneficiary, who will receive your savings upon your death. For Muslim members, the nominated person(s) will be an executor (wasi) / administrator who will manage the withdrawal of your savings in the event of your death.
Foreign citizens are not allowed to make any nomination.
Why Should You Make A Nomination?
You are encouraged to nominate your beneficiary to facilitate and expedite the withdrawal of your EPF savings by the persons nominated. If you do not nominate the beneficiary of your savings, your next-of-kin/dependents may face difficulties to claim your savings from the EPF.
If your savings are more than RM25,000, your next-of-kin/dependents are required to obtain the Letter of Administration/Grant of Probate/Distribution Order/Faraid Certificate from the party that administers estates such as Amanah Raya Berhad or the Court or the Land Office, respectively. The process to obtain these documents is time-consuming and applicants will have to pay certain fees.
How to Make a Nomination?
You are required to complete Form KWSP 4 (AHL) and submit the form to the nearest EPF office. This form must be received by the EPF during your lifetime.
How to Update Your Nomination?
If you wish to change or make a new nomination or make any amendment to your existing nomination, you are required to submit a new KWSP 4 (AHL) nomination form. As soon as the EPF receives your new nomination form, your previous nomination will be revoked automatically.
Nomination for Muslim Members
For Muslim Members, the person(s) named can only act as an administrator/executor (wasi) who will be responsible for distributing the Member's savings to the rightful heirs in accordance to the Faraid Law.
Authorised Witnesses
You can choose anyone aged 18 years and above to be the witness of your nomination except the person/persons nominated to receive your savings.
